New Delhi, October 11: India’s Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, praising the administration and security forces for their actions following the April terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.
The meeting, attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior officials from security and intelligence agencies, focused on the region’s counter-terrorism strategy and border preparedness ahead of winter.
Shah said the steps taken by the Union Territory administration and security agencies after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, carried out by three Pakistani terrorists later killed in an operation on July 28, had strengthened the overall security environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The terrorist network in Jammu and Kashmir is almost crippled,” Shah said, according to an official statement, while urging agencies to maintain close coordination and remain vigilant to eliminate remaining threats. With the onset of winter, Shah cautioned that forces must stay fully prepared to prevent infiltration attempts across the border and ensure peace in the region.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to achieving a terrorism-free Jammu and Kashmir, Shah assured that the Centre would continue to provide all necessary resources for counter-terrorism operations and that security forces would retain full freedom of action to tackle any emerging threat.
