RANCHI, Jharkhand 24 : The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) will launch a statewide campaign from September 1 to highlight shortcomings in school education and demand improvements across Jharkhand, its national general secretary Aishe Ghosh said on Monday.
Ghosh, a former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union, was in Ranchi to attend a state-level meeting of the SFI and Democratic Youth Federation of India.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Ghosh said school education in Jharkhand faced several challenges, including shortages of teachers and delays in the distribution of scholarships.
“Many schools lack teachers, while scholarships are not being distributed among students. A survey will also be conducted to identify other problems being faced by schools,” she said.Ghosh said the SFI, along with organisations representing women and farmers, would visit schools across the state, identify problems and raise them with the authorities.
She said the prolonged student agitation at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar had given fresh impetus to students demanding improvements in the education system.
Ghosh also expressed support for students in Jharkhand who have been protesting against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
Speaking at the state-level meeting on Sunday, she had raised concerns over irregularities in the examination system and said question paper leaks had affected the future of millions of students.
She also criticised what she described as a coaching-driven examination system, calling for broader reforms in the country’s education and examination framework.
