Ranchi, September 25: In a bid to address the acute shortage of doctors, the Hemant Soren government on Thursday appointed around 175 assistant professors and specialist doctors, marking one of the largest recruitments in Jharkhand’s health sector in recent years.
In a ceremony held at the Jharkhand Secretariat, appointment letters were handed to 175 doctors by the Chief Minister. Along with Soren, Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari, Health Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh, and several senior officials were also present on the occasion.
Congratulating the new recruits, CM Soren reminded them of their responsibility saying: “You are called gods, and therefore, you carry the trust of the people. Today, gods are being appointed.”

He also urged the doctors to dedicate themselves to serving the poor and assured that the government is committed to improving the state’s healthcare system with their cooperation.
Referring to the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, Soren said the state managed the crisis effectively, particularly in bringing back migrant workers. He also directed officials to honor doctors who perform well in their duties to encourage others.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Ansari called the recruitment drive historic, noting that nearly 175 doctors have been appointed, the highest number in the past two decades.
He added that more appointments will follow to further address the shortage in the state.
Notably, all these doctors have been recruited through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the National Health Mission (NHM).
