London, July 9: Two crew members aboard a Liberian-flagged, Greek-operated bulk carrier were killed in an attack by sea drones and speedboats off the coast of Yemen, Liberia’s shipping delegation told the United Nations shipping agency on Tuesday.

The vessel, Eternity C, was struck on Monday evening in the Red Sea, marking the first fatal maritime attack in the region since June 2024. The incident brings the total number of seafarer deaths in Red Sea attacks to six, according to the Liberian delegation’s remarks at a meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London.

The attack occurred amid ongoing security threats in the Red Sea, where vessels have increasingly come under assault amid rising regional tensions.

Further details on the identities or nationalities of the deceased crew members have not yet been released. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assault. The IMO and maritime security officials continue to monitor the situation closely as risks to commercial shipping in the area persist.
