DAVOS, Jan 24 – Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Hyderabad’s transportation infrastructure, including two concentric circles of roads and railways, at a roundtable on Urban Mobility in Davos on Wednesday.

The project includes the expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail to over 100 kilometers, the construction of a 360-km Regional Ring Road (RRR), and a new Regional Ring Railway to connect major towns and villages around the city. The rings will be linked by radial roads to streamline urban and regional mobility.

“Mobility is life. Cities where the cost and time to move people and goods are low will win in the long term,” Reddy said, emphasizing Hyderabad’s growing population of over 12 million and the need for sustainable infrastructure to support its growth.

The Chief Minister stressed that the city’s mobility plan extends beyond urban limits, connecting Hyderabad with smaller towns and villages across Telangana. A new dry port is also planned to support supply chains and warehousing, with direct connectivity to the Machilipatnam seaport in neighboring Andhra Pradesh via dedicated highways and rail lines. In a push for sustainability, Telangana plans to replace 3,000 petrol and diesel public buses with electric vehicles. The state has also removed road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles, boosting its position as a leader in EV adoption in India.

Additionally, Reddy announced the development of a net-zero city, designed to feature cutting-edge mobility solutions. “We want our people to move fast, move at low cost, and we will build the infrastructure to support this,” he said.  The Chief Minister invited global investors and experts to collaborate on building Hyderabad’s future transportation network. “Help me make Hyderabad the fastest and greenest city in the world,” he urged. The state government’s plans align with its broader strategy to ensure Hyderabad remains competitive, sustainable, and a model for urban mobility in the long term.
