Ranchi, August 22: Jharkhand has immense potential for its local cinema to establish a global identity, renowned film editor and filmmaker Aseem Sinha said on Saturday.Sinha was speaking at a ‘Meet the Mentor’ programme organised by the Jharkhand Film Development Corporation Limited (JFDC-L) at the Information Bhavan auditorium in Ranchi.
He said that for the growth of cinema in a state like Jharkhand, creating a positive environment for films from cities to rural areas is essential. Rather than focusing only on financial assistance, greater attention should be given to developing cinema infrastructure and promoting a film culture in rural areas, he said.
Emphasising opportunities for regional artists, Sinha called for a seed-funding mechanism for local films and stressed the need for mentoring to develop a robust system for evaluating films and scripts.
Sinha also shared experiences from his early struggles in the film industry and discussed technological changes in film editing. He spoke about his experience of working with filmmakers including Shyam Benegal, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Kalpana Lajmi and Ketan Mehta.
Sinha is currently serving as the chairman of the jury for the non-feature film category of the 72nd National Film Awards.
During the programme, Deputy Director Syed Rashid Akhtar felicitated Sinha with a shawl and memento. Joint Director Anand said Sinha has edited more than 100 films.
Several prominent personalities, including Abhay Kumar, Jeb Akhtar, Anuj Kumar and Mahesh Majhi, were present at the event.
