Ranchi, Aug 21: More than 63 lakh voters in Jharkhand have been identified for verification during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with hearings for those receiving notices scheduled to begin from August 24, election officials said.A total of 63,24,116 voters are being issued notices at the Electoral Registration Officer level.
The notices relate to discrepancies or verification requirements found during the revision of the electoral rolls.Officials clarified that receiving a notice does not by itself mean that a voter has been declared ineligible or removed from the electoral roll. The concerned voters will get an opportunity to present their claims and provide the necessary information during the hearing process.According to the figures, 45,55,227 voters fall under the category of logical discrepancies, making it the largest group.
These cases include differences in names, parents’ names or dates of birth, as well as instances where a voter appears to be registered at more than one location.Another 14,03,205 voters have been placed under the “No Mapping” category, while 3,65,684 voters have been identified under the Demographically Similar Entry category.
Ranchi has the highest number of voters receiving notices at 6,89,283, followed by Giridih with 5,33,553, Dhanbad with 4,73,891, East Singhbhum with 4,59,314 and Hazaribagh with 4,16,052.The draft electoral roll currently contains 2,21,01,249 voters across the state. Before the hearings begin, special camps will be organised at polling stations across Jharkhand on August 22 and 23.
Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar has urged recognised political parties to assist the election authorities through their Booth Level Agents and workers. The authorities have also asked eligible citizens who are 18 years old or will turn 18 on or before October 1, 2026, and whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll, to apply for inclusion through Form 6 along with the prescribed declaration. The SIR also aims to implement a “one family, one polling station” arrangement.
Families whose members are registered at different polling stations or whose polling station is far from their residence can apply for a change through Form 8.Kumar said the objective of the revision was to prepare an accurate and error-free electoral roll while ensuring that no eligible Indian citizen was excluded.
He also urged political parties and citizens to help identify cases where an ineligible person may have attempted to enter the electoral roll through a false declaration. Such objections can be raised using Form 7, after which the matter will be examined by the concerned Electoral Registration Officer.
Representatives of the BJP, Congress and AAP attended a meeting at the Chief Electoral Officer’s office and offered suggestions and assured cooperation in the revision exercise.
