Ranchi, July 16: Security was tightened at passport offices across Jharkhand on Wednesday after the Regional Passport Office in Ranchi and Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) in Ranchi, Deoghar, and Dhanbad received bomb threat emails, prompting immediate police action and thorough searches.
According to officials, the Regional Passport Office in Ranchi received a threatening email early in the morning.
The matter was immediately reported to the local police, who launched a comprehensive search operation at the Regional Passport Office and the Passport Seva Kendra located at Ahirtoli.
Security personnel also inspected the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) as part of the precautionary measures.
Regional Passport Officer Manita K. said the authorities acted promptly after receiving the email, informing the police without delay.
Although no explosives or suspicious objects were found during the searches, security arrangements at all passport centres have been significantly strengthened.
Officials are also keeping a close watch on suspicious activities around these facilities.
The latest threat follows a similar incident earlier this year when the Ranchi Regional Passport Office received a bomb threat via email.
That case also resulted in extensive police searches, but no explosive material was recovered.
Other government institutions in Ranchi have also faced similar threats in recent months. The Ranchi Civil Court received bomb threat emails in February and again in March, including warnings of bomb and cyanide gas attacks.
The Ranchi Collectorate also received a bomb threat email in February, leading to an evacuation and a detailed search operation.
No explosives were found in any of those cases.Meanwhile, passport offices in Dhanbad and Deoghar also received similar threat emails on Wednesday.
Police conducted extensive searches at both locations, temporarily affecting normal operations.
Authorities have begun investigating the origin of the emails to identify those responsible.
Officials confirmed that no explosives were found at any of the affected locations. Investigations are continuing, while security has been intensified at passport offices and other key government buildings across the state as a precaution.
