Bareilly, Aug 29: Raksha Bandhan celebrations in Bareilly witnessed gestures of friendship and brotherhood across community lines, with several residents and public figures participating in Rakhi ceremonies during the festival.
Mera Haq Foundation president Farhat Naqvi met Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar at his residence in Bareilly’s Kohadapir locality and tied a Rakhi to him.
The Rakhi ceremony continued a tradition that, according to the information available, has been observed by Naqvi and Gangwar for several years.
Razia Naqvi, Farhat Naqvi’s daughter, also marked the occasion by tying a Rakhi to Vishnu Gupta, a resident of the Pilibhit Bypass area.Other Rakhi ceremonies were organised in different parts of the city.
Munni Begum, a former candidate for a district panchayat position, tied a Rakhi to Engineer Janak Prasad, associated with the Tiranga branch of the Aam Aadmi Party.Social workers and community representatives also joined the celebrations.
Manav Seva Club president Surendra Binu Sinha took part in Rakhi festivities involving Asia Ali, a post warden from Jakhira, and Shamim Bano, a former councillor from Malookpur.In another ceremony, BJP Minority Morcha leader Shanu Kazmi visited BJP leader and advocate Kirti Kashyap at her residence in Kandharpur.
Kirti Kashyap, the daughter of former Aonla MP Dharmendra Kashyap, tied a Rakhi to Kazmi. He conveyed his wishes for her happiness and well-being.The events were seen as examples of the festival’s broader message of affection, trust and mutual respect.
Raksha Bandhan was celebrated enthusiastically across Bareilly, with families following traditional customs. Women wearing festive and traditional clothing visited their brothers carrying ceremonial plates containing Rakhis, lamps and sweets.
The traditional rituals included performing aarti, applying tilak and tying the sacred thread, followed by the exchange of sweets and greetings.Celebrations were also held at several religious locations in the city.
The various events held during Raksha Bandhan reflected the ability of cultural festivals to strengthen personal relationships and encourage goodwill among people belonging to different communities and social backgrounds.
