Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: The Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC), Bhubaneswar, has trained 8,083 engineering students through its four-week Summer Internship Training Programme conducted during May and June 2026, highlighting the growing emphasis on practical and industry-focused technical education.

The programme, organised under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), drew participants from 22 States and Union Territories. It also included 26 international students from Sudan and Yemen.

Students from the first year through the final year of engineering courses participated in the internship, which focused on providing hands-on exposure and strengthening technical skills required by industries. The training covered a broad range of disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil, Computer Science and Information Technology.

Participants were also introduced to emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, the Internet of Things and Additive Manufacturing.

Mechanical Engineering accounted for the largest number of participants, with 3,193 students. Electronics followed with 2,209 students, while 1,948 students came from IT and software-related streams.

Civil Engineering accounted for 388 participants, and 345 students were enrolled in other emerging technology domains. The internship programme offered courses across 39 engineering and technology areas. Artificial Intelligence recorded the highest enrolment, with 1,748 students.

Other popular areas included PLC Programming, which attracted 1,000 students, AutoCAD with 991 participants, Python Programming with 413 students and Data Analytics with 392 participants.Students from several leading educational institutions, including Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, deemed universities, engineering colleges and polytechnic institutes, took part in the programme.

The initiative was aimed at helping students connect theoretical learning with practical industrial applications and improve their readiness for employment in technology and manufacturing sectors.CTTC Bhubaneswar plays a wider role in supporting the country’s manufacturing ecosystem. The institution was established to meet the tooling and technical training requirements of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and provides services related to the design and production of press tools, moulds, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, automobile components and other high-precision engineering products.

The centre also conducts training in areas such as Tool and Die Technology, Product Design, Mechatronics, Advanced Machine Maintenance, CAD/CAM/CAE, CNC machining and programming.Apart from technical education and MSME support, CTTC Bhubaneswar has contributed to major national programmes in the space and aerospace sectors.

The centre manufactured and supplied thousands of precision components for the Chandrayaan-3 mission. It has also supplied specialised components for India’s Aditya-L1 solar mission.CTTC has further contributed to aerospace and defence manufacturing, including the production of high-precision components for Original Equipment Manufacturers associated with programmes such as the Light Combat Aircraft initiative.

With its latest internship programme reaching more than 8,000 students, CTTC Bhubaneswar has further expanded its role in developing a skilled engineering workforce while supporting India’s push towards advanced manufacturing, technological capability and greater self-reliance.
