Palamu, Aug. 29: Palamu Police have seized around 440 kilograms of cannabis and arrested two persons during an operation against alleged narcotics trafficking, officials said.Police said the action was carried out under Operation Prahar after authorities received information about a large quantity of cannabis allegedly being stored in Mahuraon village under the Nawdiha Bazar police station area.
Following the intelligence input, a special team was formed under the leadership of Chhatarpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prashant Kumar. The team conducted a raid at the suspected location and recovered the consignment.The seized cannabis has an estimated market value of around ₹2.5 crore, according to the police.
Two persons, identified as Jamshed Alam and Ali Raza, were taken into custody in connection with the case. During questioning, the accused allegedly provided information regarding the movement of the consignment and other aspects of the suspected trafficking network.
According to preliminary information obtained by investigators, the consignment was allegedly brought from Odisha and was intended to be transported further to Bihar.Palamu Superintendent of Police Kapil Chaudhary said the operation was conducted as part of the police campaign against the illegal narcotics trade.
He said investigators had obtained several important leads during questioning and that further action was underway. Police have also intensified efforts to identify other individuals who may be connected with the alleged trafficking network.
Search operations and further investigation are continuing on the basis of information gathered during the operation.The raid involved several police officers, including Chhatarpur Inspector Dwarika Ram and Nawdiha Bazar police station in-charge Neeraj Kumar.
