Ranchi, July 16: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has initiated efforts to establish a permanent vending zone for street vendors displaced from Morabadi Ground, aiming to provide them with a secure and organized place to conduct their businesses.
As part of the initiative, Mayor Asha Lakra and Deputy Mayor Neeraj Kumar jointly inspected nearly 45 decimals of government land near Tagore Hill in Morabadi on Wednesday.
The proposed site has been identified for the rehabilitation of vendors who were previously removed from Morabadi Ground during anti-encroachment measures.
According to municipal officials, the proposed relocation is intended to protect the livelihoods of vendors while ensuring systematic urban development and better management of public spaces.
The new vending zone is expected to offer vendors a stable and legally designated location to operate their businesses.
During the inspection, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor interacted with vendors to understand their concerns, hear their suggestions, and discuss the proposed rehabilitation plan.
The civic body assured vendors that their interests would be taken into consideration before the relocation process is finalized.
Mayor Asha Lakra said the Municipal Corporation’s objective is not to disrupt anyone’s livelihood but to provide vendors with a safe, permanent, and organized commercial space.
She emphasized that the initiative seeks to balance the needs of street vendors with the city’s efforts to maintain public order and improve civic infrastructure.
Senior municipal officials, including the Assistant Administrator, City Mission Manager, Enforcement Officer, and other officers and staff, were present during the site inspection.
The proposed vending zone is expected to improve urban management while ensuring that displaced vendors receive a secure and sustainable place to continue their businesses.
