Ranchi, August 30: Hundreds of people gathered at Morabadi Maidan in Ranchi on Sunday for the Adivasi Unity Mahajutan Rally, organised to oppose the proposed delimitation exercise.
The organisers claimed that a large number of members of the Adivasi community had arrived in Ranchi from different districts to participate in the rally. The gathering was aimed at voicing concerns over the proposed changes in the delimitation of constituencies.
In view of the expected crowd, the state administration and police made extensive security arrangements at and around the venue to maintain law and order.
The proposed delimitation exercise has not yet been passed by Parliament. The rally is being seen as part of efforts to build public opposition to the exercise, particularly among tribal communities in Jharkhand.
The organisers have demanded that the delimitation process be deferred or kept frozen until 2028. They have raised concerns over its potential impact on the political representation of tribal communities in the state.
The campaign has received support from the ruling Mahagathbandhan, comprising the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
The rally comes amid growing political debate in Jharkhand over delimitation, reservation and representation of Scheduled Tribe communities. Organisers are expected to press their demands before the state and Central governments.
