Ranchi, July 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Hemant Soren-led government over the law and order situation in Jharkhand, alleging that rising crime and administrative failure have created an atmosphere of fear across the state.

In a statement, BJP state spokesperson Deendayal Barnwal claimed that the government’s inability to control crime had resulted in what he described as a “parallel government of criminals” operating in Jharkhand.

“Jharkhand’s law and order situation is beyond the government’s control. Due to the government’s administrative failure and indifference, a parallel government of criminals is operating in the state,” Barnwal alleged.

He further claimed that the morale of criminals was steadily increasing while the police machinery appeared “helpless and powerless.” According to him, incidents of murder, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping, rape and crimes against women were being reported from Ranchi, Jamshedpur and several other districts, leaving residents feeling increasingly insecure.

“From Ranchi to Jamshedpur and other districts, incidents of murder, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping, rape and crimes against women are continuously increasing. Common citizens are feeling unsafe even in leaving their homes,” he said.

Referring to the Himanshu murder case in Jamshedpur, Rahul’s murder in Mango, and recent theft and robbery incidents in Ranchi’s Ashok Nagar, Barnwal alleged that these cases reflected the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. He also expressed concern over women’s safety, citing recent incidents reported from Mango and Godda.

The BJP spokesperson further alleged that instead of taking effective measures to curb crime, the state government had confined itself to transferring and suspending officials, a strategy he claimed had failed to improve the situation.

“Instead of establishing effective control over crime, the government is limited to transferring and suspending officials,” he alleged.

Barnwal also linked the law and order situation to the state’s investment prospects. Referring to the recently held investors’ summit, he said attracting fresh investments would remain difficult unless the government ensured public safety, reliable infrastructure and a secure business environment.

“A safe environment is essential for investment and industrial development in the state,” he said, adding that uninterrupted electricity, water supply, roads and effective policing were crucial for industrial growth.

Urging the government to act decisively, Barnwal demanded stronger policing, strict action against criminals and a clear policy to tackle rising crime.

“The government must strengthen law and order, take strict action against criminals and ensure a safe environment for the people,” he said.
