Lucknow/Bengaluru, March 26: A series of shocking incidents from Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka have raised serious concerns over domestic violence, public safety, and mental health, with multiple deaths reported in separate cases, officials said.

In Kushinagar, a 30-year-old man allegedly killed his mother and wife in a gruesome attack on the rooftop of his house. According to reports, the accused clubbed the victims to death and smashed their heads with bricks. The incident drew villagers to the spot after hearing the victims’ screams, leaving onlookers horrified.

In a separate incident in Kalaburagi district, a man identified as Akshay allegedly assaulted and killed his 28-year-old wife Shaila on a roadside near Ballurga village while they were travelling to Ganagapura. Police said an argument broke out between the couple during the journey, following which the accused forced his wife out of the vehicle and physically assaulted her.

Bystanders intervened and briefly assisted the victim, but the accused allegedly drove the SUV towards a nearby field, pushed her out again, and ran the vehicle over her. The entire incident was captured on video by eyewitnesses. Officials said preliminary investigations point to a marital dispute, with suspicion of an extramarital relationship as a possible motive.

In another case, a social welfare officer, identified as Mallikarjun, died by suicide in Tumakuru district. He was found hanging in his office in Pavagada. Before his death, he reportedly recorded a video alleging harassment by a senior officer, a charge that has been denied by the accused official.

Police said Mallikarjun cited workplace pressure and expressed concern that he could not “continue to support” his family, prompting calls for a closer examination of working conditions in government departments.

Authorities are investigating all three incidents, which together underscore growing concerns over domestic conflicts, violent behaviour, and mental health challenges across regions.
