Ranchi, Mar 24: Light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in parts of Jharkhand later this week, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday, issuing a ‘yellow’ alert for thunderstorms across several districts.
According to the weather office, the state is expected to witness rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph, particularly on March 27 and 28. As many as 18 districts are likely to be affected on March 27, while 20 districts may receive rainfall on March 28, barring Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and Latehar.
“Light to moderate rain is likely in parts of Jharkhand later this week,” the IMD said, adding, “A ‘yellow’ alert for thunderstorms has also been issued.”
Officials said that dry weather conditions will prevail over the next 48 hours, after which rainfall activity is expected to pick up across most districts.
“Over the next 48 hours, dry weather conditions will prevail across the state. Thereafter, isolated rainfall is likely in most districts,” said Abhishek Anand of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
Meanwhile, the IMD has also predicted a rise in maximum temperatures by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next four days, indicating fluctuating weather conditions in the region.
“The maximum temperature is likely to increase by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next four days,” Anand said.
In the past 24 hours, Daltonganj recorded the highest temperature in the state at 33.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Jamshedpur (33.5°C) and Chaibasa (33.4°C). The state capital Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 29.9 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has advised residents to stay alert amid possible thunderstorms and changing weather patterns in the coming days.
