The incident, which took place near the residence of Bihari Lal Chaudhary, has sparked outrage after a video of the episode surfaced on social media.
According to police, the victim, Rajkumar Verma, who runs a coconut and fruit stall in the area, got into an argument with occupants of a car that had stopped near his cart. The dispute reportedly began after a man sitting inside the vehicle placed a beer bottle outside the car and started drinking, prompting the shopkeeper to object.
The disagreement quickly escalated into a heated altercation. Witnesses said the accused abused and slapped the vendor during the argument. In the midst of the scuffle, one of the men allegedly opened the car door and forcibly pulled Verma inside while another accomplice drove the vehicle at high speed.
Police said the shopkeeper was dragged along with the moving car for nearly 100 metres before he was thrown onto the road, suffering severe injuries, including a deep head wound.
Local residents rushed the injured vendor to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Authorities at Kenduadih Police Station registered a case after the disturbing video of the incident went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and condemnation.
During the investigation, police arrested P.P. Kumar Singh, the owner of the car allegedly used in the incident, and seized the vehicle. Officials said efforts are underway to identify and question other individuals involved.
A police official said the clash stemmed from a disagreement over coconuts and quickly spiralled out of control.

Describing the sequence of events, investigators added:
“The accused forcibly pulled the fruit vendor inside the car and sped away, dragging him for about 100 meters before he fell onto the road.”
Police confirmed that the arrested accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is ongoing.
