Guwahati, Dec 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Assam has been postponed due to dense fog affecting flight operations, officials said on Sunday.

Shah was earlier expected to arrive in Guwahati on Sunday, December 28, with the visit later rescheduled for Monday.

However, continued poor visibility has led to a further postponement of his arrival.

A revised schedule is yet to be announced. During the proposed visit, the Home Minister was slated to pay homage to the martyrs of the Assam Movement at the newly constructed Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Guwahati.

He was also scheduled to travel to Batadrava Than in Borduwa, Nagaon district—the birthplace of Vaishnava saint Srimanta Sankardeva—to inaugurate the redevelopment project of the spiritual site and address a public rally.

Shah’s itinerary additionally included the inauguration of the new police commissionerate building and an Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS) in Guwahati, aimed at strengthening the city’s security infrastructure.

He was also expected to inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex, a cultural auditorium with a seating capacity of around 5,000.

Officials said further updates will be issued once the revised travel schedule is finalised.
