Tourist Submarine Sinks Off Egypt’s Coast, Killing Six
March 27 – A tourist submarine sank off the coast of Hurghada, a popular Egyptian Red Sea destination, killing six people and injuring nine others, two municipal officials said on Thursday.
The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to brief the media, said emergency crews rescued 29 people. The Red Sea governorate confirmed in a statement that the submarine had been carrying 45 tourists of various nationalities when it sank near a beach in the tourist promenade area.
The cause of the sinking was not immediately clear. Many tourism companies have reduced or halted travel in the Red Sea due to regional conflicts, raising safety concerns for operators and visitors.
