Canada, April 05: An Indian national was stabbed to death in Rockland, near Ottawa, Canada, the Indian Embassy in Canada said on Saturday. The Embassy added that one suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in Rockland near Ottawa, due to stabbing. Police has stated a suspect has been taken into custody. We are in close contact through a local community association to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved kin,” the Embassy posted on X.
While details of the incident are still awaited, the Embassy has assured full support to the victim’s family. It said it was working through a local community association to coordinate assistance.
Local media reports suggest that one person died in Clarence-Rockland on Saturday morning and another individual was taken into custody. However, it is not yet confirmed whether this is the same incident referred to by the Indian Embassy.
The Ontario Provincial Police has issued an advisory warning residents of Rockland to expect an increased police presence in the area, according to CBC News.
