Manipur, Jan 21 : Security forces in Manipur have recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during extensive search and area domination operations in the Lunkhongjang Ridges under the jurisdiction of New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to bolster security in vulnerable hill and valley districts of the northeastern state.
The recovered items include a 7.62 mm sniper rifle, five 9 mm pistols with magazines, two SBBL guns, two No. 36 hand grenades, six live rounds of ammunition, two stun shells, one tear smoke shell containing chilli, another tear smoke shell, and a Motorola communication set, officials said.
The operation underscores the commitment of security forces to maintaining peace and stability in the region, which has witnessed intermittent unrest in recent months. Authorities believe the seizure will help prevent potential threats and enhance security measures in the area.
Further investigations are underway to trace the origins of the recovered weapons and determine whether they were intended for use in any criminal or insurgent activities.
Manipur’s security forces have ramped up operations in both hill and valley regions amid concerns over escalating tensions and the proliferation of illicit arms. Officials have urged local residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activity to maintain peace in the region.
