Mumbai, April 18: Netflix is set to release the highly anticipated series The Royals on May 9, 2025, starring Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. This series marks Pednekar’s debut in the world of web series, while Khatter, who has already made a mark with A Suitable Boy and The Perfect Couple, expands his digital portfolio with this romantic drama.
In The Royals, Khatter takes on the role of Aviraaj Singh, a royal heir, while Pednekar portrays an ordinary CEO, a character whose journey contrasts sharply with Khatter’s. The show delves into their tumultuous love story, centered around two people from completely different backgrounds who find themselves irresistibly drawn to each other despite their differences.
“The series is about two people from completely different worlds, each fighting their own battles, constantly at odds, yet irresistibly drawn to each other in ways they never expected—remember how you never want the good one but always chase after the one you know is trouble? That’s The Royals for you,” said creators Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy, describing the essence of the show.
Set against a blend of old-world royal charm and contemporary luxury, the series combines elements of grandeur, with scenes from palaces featuring modern touches like glass-walled bedrooms. Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, The Royals also features an ensemble cast, including Zeenat Aman, Nora Fatehi, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Lisa Mishra, Sumukhi Suresh, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Udit Arora, and Luke Kenny in pivotal roles.
With the show’s premiere approaching, fans can expect a captivating mix of royal drama and complex character dynamics, all told through an engaging love story that defies boundaries. “A ziddi rajkumar meets a girlboss aamkumari,” reads the tagline from the series, giving a glimpse of the passionate yet complicated relationship between Khatter and Pednekar’s characters.
The Royals is set to premiere on Netflix on May 9, offering viewers a thrilling new addition to the platform’s growing library of original content.
