Jamshedpur, August 13: XLRI – Xavier School of Management on Wednesday celebrated National Librarians’ Day at its Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library, unveiling new digital tools and recognising top library users in a programme attended by senior academic leaders.
The event honoured the role of libraries and library professionals, paying tribute to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, considered the father of Library Science in India. Director Dr. (Fr.) Sebastian George, SJ, Dean of Administration and Finance Dr. (Fr.) Donald D’Silva, SJ, Dean of Academics Dr. Sanjay Patro, and Finance Area Chair Dr. H. K. Pradhan attended the programme, hosted by Head Librarian D. T. Edwin and his team.
Key launches included the XLRI Library App, the XLRI RemoteXs App and Nova | XL-LibBot 2.0, inaugurated by the director, the dean of administration and finance, and the dean of academics respectively.
Awards were presented in categories such as most books borrowed, most frequent library user, most active online catalogue user, and winners of the 2025 library quiz. Recognition was also given to top Coursera learners and library staff members for their contributions.
Speaking at the event, Sebastian George described librarians as “custodians of human development”, while D’Silva praised their professionalism and dedication. Patro stressed the importance of bridging information gaps in developing nations, and Pradhan highlighted the library’s evolution from a physical collection to a modern research hub.
The celebration, the organisers said, reaffirmed XLRI’s commitment to advancing knowledge, research and digital innovation in library services.
