Jamshedpur, October11: Loyola School, Jamshedpur, recently hosted an inspiring interactive session with distinguished alumnus and filmmaker Sanjivan Lal, acclaimed for his feature film Bubblegum (2010) and acclaimed documentaries such as The Bet and A Sleepless City. Organized for members of the school’s Dramatics Club, the event became a memorable afternoon of reflection, storytelling, and creative insight.
Mr. Lal captivated the audience with an engaging discussion on his ambitious project, “Brexit 1947,” an exploration of post-colonial identity and the lingering echoes of Partition through his upcoming documentary The India Freedom. Drawing powerful parallels between the historical and the contemporary, he encouraged students to see how cinema and creative expression can bring forgotten narratives to light and foster meaningful cultural dialogue.
Sharing his own journey from Loyola’s classrooms to the world of cinema, Mr. Lal spoke candidly about the challenges of breaking into the film industry. He emphasized resilience, patience, and humility as essential traits for success, reminding students that confidence is built on curiosity and continuous learning rather than accolades. “Setbacks,” he noted, “are not roadblocks, but stepping stones toward growth.”
Fondly recalling his time in Loyola’s Entertainment Club, Sahitya Parishad, and Dramatics Club, Lal credited these formative experiences with nurturing his love for storytelling and performance. The session concluded with a lively Q&A, as students eagerly sought his thoughts on creativity, filmmaking, and the power of personal vision.
Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes and Vice Principal Mrs. Jayanti Sheshadri presented Mr. Lal with a memento and a sapling, symbolizing growth and inspiration. His visit left the young Loyolites deeply motivated—an enduring reminder that passion, humility, and perseverance can transform dreams into lasting legacies.
