Ranchi, Jan 15: The International Year of Millets 2023, was celebrated in Ranchi at Dhurwa Dam on Sunday under the agies of ‘Birds of the Same Feathers’ (BoSF), which is an informal group of passouts from the Indian Institute of Mass communication (IIMC). The group consists of journalists, corporates, bureaucrats, academicians, teachers and social workers.

The United Nations Organization (UNO) has declared year 2023 as The International Year of Millets to promote consumption of grains included in the category of Millets. India is one the major country where the millets are produced and in many parts of the country this is used as staple food.

The celebration started with plantation of sampling at the dam site and then members enjoyed playing traditional games like ‘Gulli Danda’ kite flying, ‘Matka Breaking ‘ etc. The message of uses of Millets were also disseminated among the large number of people present there.

Ranchi SSP Kaushal Kishore, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest, said, “It’s a very thoughtful and well organised program which urges us to go back to our roots and adopt the food culture of our glorious past.”

The Government of India is running many campaigns to make Millets more popular amongst the cross section of people.

BoSF Founder Manoj Kumar said, “Consumption of millets by more and more Indians will help improve both the physical and financial health of individuals and the country.”
