Palamu, April 18: A watchman in Hussainabad, Palamu, was murdered on March 17, 2025, as part of an attempt to destroy evidence of a bicycle theft, local police reported. Ramdev Thakur, the night guard at the BRC in Hussainabad, was allegedly killed by four sanitation workers who feared they would be caught after their theft was uncovered.

According to the police, the incident began on March 15 when Thakur discovered that the accused had stolen two bicycles. After learning about the theft, Thakur reportedly confronted the suspects and threatened to inform the authorities unless the bicycles were returned. In response, the four suspects planned his murder to prevent him from going to the police.

The accused were identified as Sanoj Dom (28), Bigu Dom (48), Yogendra Dom (28), and Sonu Dom (20), all of whom are sanitation workers employed by Hussainabad Nagar Panchayat. They carried out the murder while Thakur was sleeping on the roof of the BRC on the night of March 17, using sand and sticks to silence him.

An investigation was launched by the Hussainabad Police, and an SIT (Special Investigation Team) was formed under the leadership of SDPO S Mohammad Yakub. The investigation led to the detention of Yogendra Dom, who confessed to his involvement in the murder and named the other three suspects. The police later recovered a stone and a lathi (stick), which were used in the crime.

“We have solved the case and arrested all four suspects involved in the murder,” said Campaign ASP Rakesh Kumar Singh. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served for Ramdev Thakur.”

The case has raised concerns about crime involving workers in municipal services, with local authorities promising to enhance efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
