Ranchi, April 18: Simdega College, affiliated with Ranchi University, is facing a severe shortage of teaching staff across multiple disciplines, prompting the college principal to seek urgent intervention from university authorities.
In a letter addressed to the Registrar of Ranchi University, the principal outlined the alarming situation, revealing that seven departments — Zoology, Mathematics, Botany, Anthropology, Psychology, Geology, and Nagpuri — currently have no faculty members. The absence of instructors in these key subjects has significantly disrupted academic activities.
“The students are enrolled in these seven subjects, but there is not a single teacher available, which is severely affecting academic activities,” the principal stated in the letter.
As a temporary measure, the principal proposed utilizing the services of retired local educators, highlighting the willingness of Dr. Ram Kumar Prasad, a retired Anthropology professor and local resident, to return to teaching. His appointment, the principal noted, would require formal approval from the university.
The letter urged the university to expedite efforts to fill the vacant posts and to consider local interim arrangements to ensure that students’ education is not further compromised.
University officials have yet to issue a response.
