Choutuppal, India, July 27: Two senior officers from the Andhra Pradesh Intelligence Department were killed and two others critically injured in a road accident in Telangana’s Yadadri district early on Saturday, police said.
Deputy Superintendents of Police Chakradhar Rao and Shantha Rao died on the spot when their vehicle collided with a lorry near Kaithapuram village in Choutuppal around 4:45 a.m., officials said. The officers were travelling from Vijayawada to Hyderabad in connection with an ongoing investigation.
Additional Superintendent of Police K.V.S. Prasad and their driver, Narsing Rao, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital. “Prasad is on a ventilator, while the driver is out of danger,” said P. Madhusudhan Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Choutuppal.
According to the preliminary investigation, the SUV lost control after hitting a divider and veered into the opposite lane before crashing into an oncoming truck.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu visited the accident site and said an Accident Analysis Prevention Team (AAPT) had been deployed to determine the cause of the crash. “It is a very unfortunate incident. We have taken steps to review road safety measures to prevent such tragedies,” he said.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, along with Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy and Roads and Buildings Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy, expressed condolences and directed authorities to provide the best possible treatment to the injured. A case has been registered and further investigation is ongoing, police said.
