Gandhinagar, August 28: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will conduct a two-day open hearing and camp sitting in Gandhinagar on September 2 and 3 to examine complaints related to alleged human rights violations in Gujarat.
The proceedings will be held at the National Forensic Sciences University, with NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian and members Justice (Dr.) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi and Vijaya Bharathi Sayani scheduled to participate.
The hearings on September 2 will begin at 10:30 am and will cover cases placed before the full Commission. Complainants and concerned state government officials will be present during the proceedings and will have an opportunity to participate.
On September 3, the NHRC chairperson will specifically hear cases concerning alleged instances of bonded labour in Gujarat.
An NHRC bench comprising Justice (Dr.) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi and Vijaya Bharathi Sayani will simultaneously consider compliance matters and other complaints relating to alleged violations of human rights.The Commission will also engage with representatives of civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations and human rights defenders at 2 pm on September 3.
A separate meeting with senior Gujarat government officials is scheduled for 3 pm. The discussions will focus on human rights concerns in the state and measures for addressing such issues.The programme will conclude with a media interaction at 4:15 pm.
The NHRC has been organising camp sittings in different states since 2007 as part of its efforts to bring its proceedings closer to affected communities and facilitate quicker consideration and resolution of complaints concerning alleged human rights violations.
