New Delhi, July 22: The controversy surrounding the alleged NEET examination irregularities continued to dominate the political landscape on Wednesday, with the ruling BJP and the opposition trading sharp accusations inside and outside Parliament.
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi urged the central government to take responsibility for the issue, calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
He also demanded an apology to students affected by the controversy and sought action against those responsible for the alleged use of force against protesters.
Responding to the criticism, BJP president and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda accused the opposition of disrupting Parliament and undermining democratic institutions.
He said repeated interruptions in the House were affecting parliamentary proceedings and democratic norms.
Meanwhile, student groups and protest organisers continued demonstrations, demanding accountability for the alleged examination irregularities and reforms to ensure transparency in the recruitment and examination system.
Protest leaders said they were open to discussions with the government but insisted that any talks should take place at a neutral venue.
The protesters have sought the withdrawal of cases filed against peaceful demonstrators, protection from further legal action, and comprehensive reforms to prevent future examination-related controversies.
The movement, which began in the national capital, has reportedly spread to several other cities, with demonstrations being held in different parts of the country.
Protest organisers said they would continue their agitation until their key demands are addressed.
The issue has led to repeated confrontations between the government and the opposition during the ongoing Parliament session, with both sides blaming each other over the handling of the examination controversy and its impact on students.
