Ranchi, July 22: The Jharkhand government has approved a ₹36.30 crore road development project to upgrade a 2.6-kilometre stretch between Dhurwa intersection and the state police headquarters along the Birsa Chowk–Project Bhawan–Chandni Chowk corridor in Ranchi.

The project aims to improve traffic movement, road safety and urban infrastructure on one of the city’s busiest administrative routes.

The corridor connects several government offices, educational institutions and residential areas, witnessing heavy daily traffic.

According to officials, the work will include widening and strengthening of the existing road, geometric improvements, construction of a dedicated cycle track, relocation of utility services, landscaping, plantation, beautification and development of public amenities.

Environmental protection measures and rehabilitation work, wherever required, will also be carried out as part of the project.

The Road Construction Department said the initiative is designed to create a safer and more organised transport corridor while promoting pedestrian and non-motorised mobility.

The project also includes horticulture work with maintenance for one year to ensure long-term upkeep of green spaces.

Officials said the tendering process is currently underway and construction is expected to begin after completion of the bidding process.

The project is targeted for completion within about 10 months from the start of work.

Once completed, the upgraded corridor is expected to ease congestion, improve commuter safety and enhance the overall appearance of the government precinct through better infrastructure and planned urban landscaping.
