New Delhi, June 12: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised members of multi-party delegations for amplifying India’s message of unity and strong anti-terrorism stance during recent diplomatic missions to foreign capitals, following Operation Sindoor.
Hosting over 50 members of Parliament and former diplomats who visited 33 foreign capitals and the European Union, Modi said their advocacy was critical in reinforcing India’s position on terrorism and promoting global peace.
“The delegations, by their very makeup and strong advocacy, powerfully reinforced India’s message of unity in fighting terror,” Modi said during the interaction at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
The outreach followed Operation Sindoor, India’s diplomatic effort to draw global attention to cross-border terrorism, particularly in light of Pakistan-sponsored threats. Modi encouraged the delegates to build on the initiative by strengthening inter-parliamentary friendship forums to advance India’s interests internationally.
Delegation members shared experiences from their visits, with Modi commending the response received, particularly from countries such as Saudi Arabia, which he said reaffirmed India’s warm diplomatic ties.
Lawmakers from across party lines participated in the delegations. Notable leaders included BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, Congress’s Shashi Tharoor, JD-U’s Sanjay Jha, Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde, DMK’s K. Kanimozhi, and NCP-SP’s Supriya Sule. Former Union ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and Salman Khurshid were also part of the missions.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had earlier lauded the efforts of the delegations, highlighting their role in presenting India’s firm stance against terrorism to international audiences.
AIMIM leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi, while part of one of the delegations, did not attend the reception. Sources said he was in Dubai for a personal emergency.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi said: “Met members of various delegations who represented India in different countries and elaborated on India’s commitment to peace and the need to eradicate the menace of terrorism. We are all proud of the manner in which they put forward India’s voice.”
The visit marked a rare bipartisan diplomatic push, with officials hoping to institutionalize such collaborative international engagement going forward.
