Sahibganj, May 5: A businessman was shot dead inside his electronics shop in broad daylight in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district on Sunday, in what police are calling a targeted killing. The incident, caught on CCTV, has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Sanjeev Kumar Shah, also known as Guddu Saha, the owner of GS Electronics on College Road, was attacked by two masked assailants who arrived on a motorcycle, asked his name, and shot him in the chest at point-blank range. He was rushed to Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, Shah had briefly stepped out to a nearby medical store to purchase medicine for his children. On his return, the attackers, one wearing a black towel and the other a red towel to cover their faces, were already positioned near his shop. One of them opened fire shortly after confirming his identity.

“As soon as the criminals shot Guddu Saha, the shutters of the nearby shops started falling. On hearing the sound of the bullet, there was chaos. People started running here and there,” said an eyewitness at the scene.

Police officials, including Nagar Police Station in-charge Amit Kumar Gupta, Jirawadi police station in-charge Shashi Singh, Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Singh, and Headquarters DSP Vijay Kumar Kushwaha, reached the scene shortly after the incident. CCTV footage is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

A search operation has been launched to identify and apprehend the assailants. No arrests have been made so far.

Shah, who is survived by a son and a daughter, was a known figure in the area. His killing has left the local community in shock.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the attackers to come forward. The motive for the killing remains under investigation.
