Jamshedpur, August 15: Loyola School in Jamshedpur marked India’s 79th Independence Day on Friday with a ceremony of flag hoisting, cultural performances and calls for responsible citizenship.
Rev. Fr. Mike T. Raj, Rector, and Rev. Fr. Vinod Fernandes, Principal, jointly unfurled the tricolour as students and staff sang the national anthem. The fluttering flag served as a reminder of the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters, the school said.
In his address, Fr. Raj quoted Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali, invoking the vision of a nation “where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.” He urged students to uphold the values of freedom, dignity and moral courage, adding that youth play a vital role in building a stronger India through even the smallest acts of service.

The celebration featured dances showcasing India’s heritage, patriotic songs, and a choral recitation on the ideals of freedom and sacrifice. A dance drama portraying a journey from despair and injustice to hope and liberation drew particular praise from the audience.
Closing the event, Fr. Fernandes commended students for their efforts and said true tribute to the nation lay in actions marked by respect, honesty and compassion. “Freedom has been earned and must be cherished, nurtured and protected for the generations to come,” he said.
