Joshi urges dialogue over police action at student protest

New Delhi, July 23: Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday expressed concern over the reported use of force against women students during the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar, urging authorities to address the demonstrators’ concerns through dialogue and a long-term solution.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Joshi said it was deeply distressing to see women and young female protesters subjected to force.

He said the concerns raised by students from across the country were genuine and should be handled with sensitivity instead of being viewed only as a law-and-order issue.

The veteran leader said excessive use of force against peaceful protesters could undermine public confidence and move the country further away from its vision of becoming a developed nation.

He appealed for a compassionate approach to resolving the issue.The protest at Jantar Mantar has continued for several days over the alleged NEET examination paper leak.

Students from different states have gathered in the national capital, demanding accountability and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has also extended support to the movement through a prolonged hunger strike.

He was shifted to a hospital after his health reportedly deteriorated during the protest.On July 20, a march towards Parliament witnessed clashes between protesters and police after demonstrators attempted to move towards restricted areas.

Several students and police personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation.

Protest organizers have demanded action against officials allegedly responsible for the use of force.

The Centre has indicated its willingness to hold talks with protest representatives and has reportedly sent multiple proposals for discussions in an effort to resolve the impasse through dialogue.
