Jamshedpur/Ranchi, May 12: A woman was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a hotel room in Jamshedpur on Monday, prompting police to investigate whether the death was a suicide or a case of foul play, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Rukhsana, a resident of Azad Basti in Jamshedpur, was discovered in Room 506 of Hotel El Dorado, located in the Aam Bagan area under Sakchi police station limits. Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and authorities say they are pursuing all possible leads.
“We are investigating whether it was a case of suicide or if the woman was murdered and her body staged,” said a police officer familiar with the case.
According to preliminary findings, two hotel rooms — 504 and 506 — were rented by a group of four individuals on Sunday night, including two men, Rituraj and Pankaj, both residents of Rajendra Nagar, and two women, one of whom was Rukhsana. The second woman, a resident of the Mango locality, told police she had met Rukhsana through Instagram and had been invited to the hotel for a party.
Police recovered multiple liquor bottles and objectionable items from the room where the body was found. Investigators said an altercation had reportedly taken place between the two women before the incident, but none of the detained individuals have provided a coherent account of the events leading to Rukhsana’s death.
The two men, the other woman, and the hotel owner and manager have been taken into custody for questioning. Authorities are also scrutinizing the hotel’s role, alleging the management allotted rooms without verifying guest IDs.
“The hotel owner and manager, who allegedly allotted rooms without verifying IDs, are also being interrogated,” said the City Deputy Superintendent of Police, who added that the case would be resolved soon.
Separately, in Ranchi, two unidentified youths were found murdered with their throats slit near the Balsiring bridge in the Dhurwa area late Sunday night. The bodies were discovered in a remote patch of land near the main road.
“The bodies were found a short distance from the main road in a desolate area,” said Pramod Kumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hatia division.
Police believe the murders occurred elsewhere and the bodies were later dumped at the site. The deceased remain unidentified, and photographs have been circulated across Ranchi and nearby districts in an effort to trace their identities. Authorities are cross-referencing the bodies with missing persons’ reports. Both investigations are ongoing.
