Ranchi, Feb 19: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday paid an emotional tribute to 10-month-old Aalin Sherin Abraham, whose organs were donated after she was declared brain dead following a road accident in Kerala, saying the child has “become immortal” by giving life to others.

Aalin was critically injured in a road accident on February 5 at Pallam near Kottayam. Despite intensive medical efforts, doctors confirmed her brain death on February 12. In an extraordinary act of courage amid personal tragedy, her parents consented to donate her organs to save other lives.

The organ donation process was coordinated by the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO). Her heart valve was sent to the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, her liver to KIMS Hospital, and her kidneys to the Government Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram. Her eyes were donated to an eye bank, extending hope to multiple recipients.

Describing the parents’ decision as an unparalleled example of compassion, Soren said, “Losing a child is the most unbearable moment for the parents.”

“At a time of grief, the decision of Mrs Sherin N John and Mr Arun Abraham to donate the organs of their beloved child is not ordinary, but an example of remarkable courage, sacrifice, and compassion. This wasn’t just organ donation; it was a living testament to their unwavering faith in humanity,” he said.

“Though Alin’s life was brief, today she lives on as hope in many homes — and has become immortal,” the Chief Minister added.

Soren also lauded Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for according state honours during the child’s last rites, calling it a sensitive and fitting tribute.

Emphasising that organ donation is the greatest gift of life, Soren said the Jharkhand government would take all necessary steps to further strengthen the state’s organ donation policy to encourage more life-saving initiatives.

He noted that the example set by Aalin’s parents transcends borders, languages and distinctions, standing as an enduring message of humanity and hope.
