Ranchi, September 22: Jharkhand BJP president and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi on Monday accused Chief Minister Hemant Soren and “illegal” DGP Anurag Gupta of shielding criminals and running a network of illegal activities.

Taking to X, Marandi alleged that Rajesh Ram, currently out on bail and wanted by Ramgarh police, was frequently visiting the DGP’s office but never arrested.

He claimed that Inspector Ganesh Singh, linked to Bhurkunda police station, was working under the “patronage” of the DGP and was part of his team of “illegal resource collectors.”

According to Marandi, a viral audio suggested that Ranjit Rana, a constable close to the DGP, had tried to contact an Odisha businessman from whom Rajesh Ram allegedly extorted ₹65 lakh.

“This may sound like a film script, but it is the truth,” Marandi said. He added that “Rajesh, Ganesh, Rana, Deepak and others are only actors in a larger game of loot being run at the behest of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the illegal DGP.”

The BJP leader also questioned Soren directly, asking how much share he had received from the alleged extortions.

Marandi further claimed that wealthy mafias, granted bail in the liquor scam due to delayed chargesheets, had siphoned off more than ₹100 crore. He alleged that Soren had earlier ignored similar revelations.

Warning the Chief Minister, Marandi said: “It may take some time, but you will be caught and punished for these scams. Look at Lalu Prasad — it took 20 years, but he was punished.”
