Ranchi, March 4: Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to take immediate steps to ensure the safe return of Indians stranded in Gulf countries amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
Expressing concern over the rapidly evolving situation in the region, Soren described the developments as a matter of “extreme concern” and appealed to the Centre to facilitate the safe evacuation of Indians who feel unsafe.
“The rapidly changing situation in the Gulf region is a matter of extreme concern. I request the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Honourable Foreign Minister Dr S. Jaishankar to kindly take necessary steps to safely bring back all Indians who feel unsafe or stranded in this grave situation,” Soren said in a post on social media.
The Chief Minister assured that the Jharkhand government would extend all possible assistance to citizens from the state currently residing in Gulf nations. He also urged residents of the state living in the region to remain vigilant during the ongoing crisis.
“I appeal to all Jharkhand natives living in West Asia to remain vigilant. The nation stands with you,” he said.
To assist those in distress, the state government has activated the Jharkhand State Migrant Control Room and released dedicated helpline numbers for residents seeking help.
Officials said the control room will collect details of affected individuals and coordinate with relevant authorities to provide necessary assistance.
Thousands of migrant workers from Jharkhand are currently residing in Gulf countries, particularly in the United Arab Emirates and neighbouring states. Several travellers from the state who had visited the region on a corporate tour remain stranded after flight disruptions caused by the crisis.
Some stranded individuals said their return flight from Abu Dhabi International Airport to Ranchi was cancelled due to the conflict, and they were later shifted to Dubai and accommodated in a hotel.
“We are safe inside the hotel premises, but there is an atmosphere of fear due to the developments,” a stranded traveller said.
