Dhanbad, September 21: Dhanbad Police have cracked down on a bike-lifting racket and seized 16 stolen motorcycles in their biggest recovery to date. The Police also arrested five people, including two minors in the case.
The arrests came during a routine vehicle check on Hirak Road near Muraidih. Two men, Rohit Kumar Barnbal and Raj Chouhan, riding a suspicious motorcycle were stopped and after interrogation, they admitted the bike was stolen and revealed the details of their gang.
Acting quickly, police teams launched raids at several hideouts and traced 16 stolen bikes. Another accused, Ranjit Yadav, was arrested along with two minors found in possession of a stolen motorcycle.

Dhanbad SSP Prabhat Kumar said the gang had confessed to stealing more than 40 motorcycles from crowded markets in Dhanbad and Bokaro, selling them later at throwaway prices. “This is the highest recovery of stolen bikes in the district,” he told reporters, noting that eight bikes were recovered in a previous operation in July.
The crackdown was carried out through coordinated efforts of multiple police stations under Katras Circle.
Police said that raids are still in progress to recover more vehicles.
