Jamshedpur, October 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced Babulal Soren, son of former Chief Minister Champai Soren, as its candidate for the Ghatsila Assembly by-election.

With this development, political activity has picked up in the region as the BJP looks to win the seat with full strength.

After the formal announcement, Babulal Soren thanked party leaders in a post on X. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President J.P. Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, State President Babulal Marandi, and others for trusting him as the party’s candidate from Ghatsila.

“Thank you to the honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, National President Shri @JPNadda ji, Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji, State President Shri @yourBabulal ji, Working President Shri @AdityaPdSahu ji, and all the guardians and colleagues of the BJP family for choosing me as the official candidate of BJP from the Ghatshila Assembly seat in Jharkhand,” Babulal wrote on X.

On the other hand, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is likely to name Somesh Soren, son of late Education Minister Ramdas Soren, as its candidate. However, an official announcement from the party is still awaited.

Earlier, the BJP had released a list of 40 star campaigners, including Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jual Oram, former Chief Ministers Arjun Munda and Raghuvar Das, and State BJP President Babulal Marandi. However, the names of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah were not on the list.

The BJP had said that it will run an energetic campaign, focusing on both local and national issues to reach out to voters in the Ghatsila constituency.
