Ranchi, October 15: Hours after the BJP named Babulal Soren as its candidate for the Ghatsila bypoll, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Wednesday announced Somesh Soren, son of former Education Minister Ramdas Soren, as its nominee for the upcoming Ghatsila Assembly by-election.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren made the announcement during the party’s Central Committee meeting held at Sohrai Bhawan in Ranchi on Wednesday. According to the party, Somesh will file his nomination papers on October 17.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister and JMM Central President Hemant Soren, discussed key organizational matters, including strengthening the party structure, reviewing the ongoing membership drive, and strategizing for both the Ghatsila by-election and the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Prominent leaders including MLA Kalpana Soren, MPs, MLAs, and representatives from Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal were present. The family of late Ramdas Soren, including his wife and son, also attended the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the BJP had declared Babulal, son of former Chief Minister Champai Soren, as its candidate for the Ghatsila seat.
With both parties now naming their candidates, political activity in the region has intensified as the JMM and BJP gear up for a high-stakes contest.
