Ranchi, Feb 7 : The Jharkhand government has announced plans to recruit 60,000 teachers across the state in a phased manner. School Education and Literacy Minister Ramdas Soren disclosed the initiative during the Foundation Day event of Utkal Samaj in Golmuri, emphasizing that the process will begin soon. The recruitment drive includes 26,000 teachers through the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET), 10,000 teachers for regional languages, and 25,000-26,000 additional teachers in subsequent phases. Minister Soren also directed officials to resolve pending teacher appointment cases promptly.

The government aims to integrate tribal and regional languages into the school curriculum, with Chief Minister Hemant Soren highlighting the importance of these languages. Changes will take effect from the next academic session. An educational team has already visited West Bengal to study its language education model, with plans to assess Odisha’s system if needed. To improve the teacher-student ratio, new guidelines have been introduced: one teacher for every 10-30 students, and two teachers for classes exceeding 30 students. Education Minister Ramdas Soren stated that these reforms will streamline the recruitment process for regional and tribal language educators.

In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court declared that only JTET-qualified candidates are eligible for the 2025 Jharkhand Assistant Teacher Recruitment, overturning an earlier Jharkhand High Court order that had allowed CTET and other state TET-qualified candidates to apply for 26,001 assistant teacher vacancies. This recruitment drive underscores Jharkhand’s commitment to improving educational standards, addressing teacher shortages, and preserving linguistic heritage.
