Ranchi, April 17: The Jharkhand High Court has instructed the state government to complete the appointment of 1,373 teachers for tribal and other languages in Plus Two schools within three months, rejecting a government plea for a longer timeline.
The directive was issued by a division bench comprising Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice Rajesh Shankar while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Taleeshwar Mahato. The matter pertains to the prolonged delay in filling approved teaching positions in government schools across the state.
During the hearing, the Education Secretary, who was present in court, informed the bench that rules for the recruitment process were still being framed and would take approximately six months to finalize. The court, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the delay, stating, “There has already been a lot of delay in this matter. So much time cannot be given.”
Representing the state, Additional Advocate General Ashutosh Anand confirmed that 1,373 teaching posts had been approved. He added that once the appointment rules were finalized, the recruitment process would be handed over to the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 22, emphasizing the urgency of completing the recruitment process within the stipulated timeframe to ensure tribal language education is not further disrupted.
The case highlights growing judicial pressure on the state to address longstanding vacancies in the education sector, particularly in tribal and rural areas.
