Visakhapatnam, June 17: The Andhra Pradesh government has deputed 12 Municipal Commissioners and two Regional Directors of Municipal Administration (RDMAs) to Visakhapatnam in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on June 21 for International Yoga Day, according to an official government order issued on Monday.
The officials have been tasked with duties related to the coordination and execution of the International Yoga Day (IYD) event, which is expected to draw significant public participation and high-level security arrangements.
The order, issued by S. Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, lists senior officials from key urban centres including Vijayawada, Guntur, Machilipatnam, and Ongole.
The deputed Municipal Commissioners are: H.M. Dhyanachandra (Vijayawada), P. Sreenivasulu (Guntur), T. Nagendra Kumar (Kovvur), T.V. Ranga Rao (Mandapeta), K. Ramachandra Reddy (Bhimavaram), T. Ram Kumar (Tanuku), Ch.VVS. Bapi Raju (Machilipatnam), S. Manohar (Gudivada), G. Raghunatha Reddy (Bapatla), K. Venkateswara Rao (Ongole), M. Jaswantha Rao (Narsaraopet), and S. Siva Rama Krishna (Tadipatri).
The two RDMAs deputed are V. Ravindra from Visakhapatnam and N. Narasimha Rao from Rajamahendravaram.
The government has directed these officials to delegate responsibilities for ongoing municipal functions to subordinate officers during their deputation. They are also expected to ensure continuity of basic civic services in their respective jurisdictions while coordinating for the yoga event in Visakhapatnam.
International Yoga Day, celebrated globally on June 21, was launched by the United Nations in 2015 following a proposal by Modi and has since become an annual high-profile event in India.
