Chandigarh, June 3 : Police in India’s northern Punjab state have arrested a man accused of spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency and sharing sensitive military information, including details of troop movements during a recent security operation, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, Gagandeep Singh, was allegedly in direct contact with operatives from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as well as Gopal Singh Chawla, a known Khalistani militant based in Pakistan.
Punjab’s Director General of Police said Singh had been transmitting classified information related to Army deployments and strategic locations across the India-Pakistan border. The leaks reportedly occurred over several years and included intelligence during Operation Sindoor, a recent Indian military operation, the details of which remain undisclosed.
Authorities said Singh’s actions posed a serious threat to national security, and his arrest follows months of surveillance and coordination between central and state intelligence agencies. The investigation is ongoing, and officials said further arrests may follow.
India has long accused Pakistan of supporting pro-Khalistan militants and using ISI channels to destabilize regions such as Punjab through espionage and propaganda. Pakistan denies such claims.
