New Delhi/Tehran, July 18: The Indian embassy in Iran on Thursday issued an advisory urging Indian citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the country, citing heightened regional tensions and recent hostilities involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
“In view of the security-related developments over the past several weeks, Indian nationals are advised to carefully consider the evolving situation before undertaking non-essential travel to Iran,” the embassy said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.
The advisory also urged Indian citizens currently residing in Iran to stay alert, monitor local developments, and follow updates from Indian authorities. Those wishing to leave Iran were advised to use available commercial flight and ferry services.
The travel advisory follows weeks of escalating conflict in the region, triggered by Israel’s launch of “Operation Rising Lion” last month, aimed at dismantling Iran’s alleged nuclear infrastructure. Tehran responded with missile strikes targeting Israel and a U.S. military base in Qatar.
In a further escalation, U.S. forces struck three sites inside Iran, drawing Washington deeper into the conflict. The 12-day hostilities came to a halt after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire from the Israeli side.
Israel has said its campaign is intended to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon — an accusation Tehran has consistently denied.
The Indian advisory is the latest in a string of warnings issued by foreign missions in Iran amid the fragile security situation. Over the past few weeks, multiple airlines have also rerouted or cancelled flights operating over Iranian airspace.
