Shimla, March 24: Rain, thunderstorms and snowfall are likely to impact Himachal Pradesh as two consecutive western disturbances are expected to affect northwestern India from March 26 onwards, the meteorological department said on Tuesday.
According to the Shimla Meteorological Station, light rainfall is expected in the lower and middle hill regions, while higher altitude areas may witness snowfall or precipitation. A wet spell is likely to persist across the state from March 26 to March 28.
“Rain and thunderstorms are likely as two consecutive western disturbances are expected to affect northwest India from March 26 onwards,” the weather office said.
The department has issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph. The conditions are expected to affect most districts on March 28, except Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti, while Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts are likely to be impacted on March 26.
“Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are expected in several districts,” the department said.
Meanwhile, high-altitude tribal areas have already witnessed light snowfall, with Keylong recording 3 cm and Kukumseri 1.2 cm of snow. Scattered rainfall was also reported across the state, with Murari Devi receiving the highest rainfall of 27 mm, followed by Sundernagar (15.2 mm), Jogindernagar (15 mm), and Bharmour (11 mm). Mandi and Manali recorded 7 mm each.
Temperature variations remained minimal, with Tabo recording the lowest temperature at minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, while Una was the hottest in the state at 28.6 degrees Celsius.
“A wet spell is likely in the state on March 26, 27 and 28,” the meteorological department added.
Authorities are closely monitoring the evolving weather conditions as the twin western disturbances approach the region.
