Ranchi, July 15: A major drug trafficking network operating in Ranchi has come under the scanner after Doranda Police arrested four alleged traffickers and seized a large quantity of brown sugar during raids in different localities of the city.Acting on a tip-off, police conducted coordinated raids in Hindu Colony and Kursi Colony on Monday.
During the operation, four accused, including the alleged kingpin of the racket, were taken into custody.
A total of 1,444 packets of brown sugar and ₹58,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the illegal trade, were recovered.
The accused were produced before a court on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody.According to the preliminary investigation, the traffickers allegedly adopted a strategy of targeting young people by first making them addicted to narcotic substances.
Once dependent on the drug, several of them were reportedly persuaded to work as peddlers, helping expand the distribution network across different parts of the city.
Police officials said the accused revealed during interrogation that the narcotics were sourced from Jhalda in neighbouring West Bengal.
Investigators are now verifying the information and attempting to identify the suppliers and other members of the interstate network involved in the illegal trade.
The investigation has also indicated that the racket relied on multiple local distributors to circulate the drugs.
Police are examining financial transactions and communication records to uncover the full extent of the operation.
Officials said efforts are underway to identify additional suspects and dismantle the entire supply chain. Further raids are expected as the investigation progresses.
The recent crackdown has highlighted growing concerns over the spread of narcotics among young people in Ranchi, prompting law enforcement agencies to intensify surveillance and anti-drug operations across the city.
