Patna, Aug 29: Bihar is likely to witness a spell of heavy rainfall over the next three to four days, with the monsoon expected to remain active across the state until the first week of September, the Meteorological Department has forecast.
South Bihar is likely to receive particularly heavy rainfall between August 30 and September 2, with Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Aurangabad and Kaimur among the districts that could witness heavy spells at isolated places.
The weather department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for seven districts — Aurangabad, Begusarai, Gaya, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Nawada and Rohtas — for Sunday.
An orange alert for thunderstorms and lightning has been issued for 11 districts, including Chhapra, Ara, Kaimur, Siwan and Motihari, while a yellow alert covers 15 districts, including Patna, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Nawada.
Rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely in northwest, north-central, south-central and southwest Bihar on Sunday, prompting authorities to advise people to move to safer places during severe weather.
According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, the monsoon trough is currently passing through Bihar. A cyclonic circulation over eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas is also influencing weather conditions in the state.
The weather system is expected to bring rainfall to several parts of Bihar. On August 31 and September 1, rain is likely in most areas of the state, except Kosi-Seemanchal, with heavy spells possible from Patna to Bhagalpur and Gaya to Motihari.
Champaran, Saran and parts of eastern Bihar may also receive significant rainfall during this period.
The expected showers have brought relief to farmers, who are likely to benefit from improved rainfall conditions. However, the department has cautioned about possible waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Bihar recorded isolated rainfall on Saturday, with Jiradei in Siwan receiving 20.5 mm, the highest rainfall reported in the state. Gaya recorded 9.4 mm and Muzaffarpur 7 mm, while isolated showers were also reported from Munger, Jehanabad, Chhapra and Bhagalpur.
The weather department has advised residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning and move to safer locations whenever severe weather conditions develop.
With the monsoon remaining active, Bihar is expected to experience widespread rainfall in the coming days, particularly across South Bihar, even as authorities remain watchful of waterlogging and lightning-related risks.
